My family has lived in Gettysburg for a long time. Blood runs deep there (over six generations) and the ties that bind me there are strong. I look forward to spending some time in G-burg next week. I will be arriving just short of a rededication ceremony celebrating the 145th anniversary of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Lincoln has always been one of my favorite Presidents. Pictures, paintings and his famous speech can be found here, there, and everywhere in shops and restaurants in G-burg. There is a life-size statue of Lincoln in the middle of a sidewalk on the square that if you're not careful is quite easy to bonk into while walking downtown. When Lincoln came to Gettysburg to dedicate the national cemetary, my great great grandfather Harry was just a kid. The family story goes that Harry was present at the dedication and sat on the platform from which Lincoln gave his address. Who knows? Its fun to think about. This is one of my favorite Lincoln quotes:
Do not worry; eat three square meals a day; say your prayers; be courteous to your creditors; keep your digestion good; exercise; go slow and easy. Maybe there are other things your special case requires to make you happy; but, my friend, these I reckon will give you a good lift. ~ Abraham Lincoln
Hi Jenny, Cousin Mark, in Martinsburg.
